Oak Cottage Pond: Scenic and Perfect for Fishing (yes - there are many fish and crayfish nearly the size of lobster!) Oak Cottage Pond (AKA: Mary's Lake and Kleinert Lake) on left as seen on a circa 1908 postcard - and as seen 100 years later - in 2008. The 'lake' is actually a man-made cement pond (fed by the stream that powered the mill.) It was enjoyed for swimming into the mid-20th century - and even hosted a 2 story slide on the far side of the pond!

Historic The Mill/Carriage House ************************ After nearly 4 years of intensive labor ... ~Oak Cottage restoration is now complete~ Oak Cottage is Reigning Again as 'The Gem of the Mountain'
Spring, Summer, & Fall views are equally spectacular - even on a cloudy day like this one! The carriage house (seen here) started life in 1828 when built by Ephraim Marsh as an "Apple Cider Distillery" -- An amazing amount of the original mill still exists on the lowest (basement) level of the 'carriage house'. During the Oak Cottage restoration, the mill was temporarily converted to a woodworking shop. This is where all the windows (and there are MANY) were restored / rebuilt by hand (using vintage glass) - all the picture framing details remilled when necessary - and all other wood working processes completed.
Note the solid mahogany floors on the front porch!
